The Santa Fe Opera’s World Premiere of Mason Bates and Mark Campbell’s opera, recorded live on the PENTATONE label, named Best Opera Recording at the 61st GRAMMY® Awards


Santa Fe, NM — The recording of Mason Bates and Mark Campbell’s opera The (R)evolution of Steve Jobs won Best Opera Recording at the 61st GRAMMY® Awards on Sunday in Los Angeles. The Santa Fe Opera produced the world premiere in July 2017 and performances of the sold-out run were recorded live. The album was released on the PENTATONE label in 2018 and has been praised as “an impressive achievement” by Gramophone.

Revolution of Steve Jobs wins Grammy

The (R)evolution of Steve Jobs was a Santa Fe Opera co-commission with Seattle Opera and San Francisco Opera with support from Cal Performances. It has been co-produced with Seattle Opera, San Francisco Opera, and Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music, which performed it in September 2018. The production opens at Seattle Opera on February 23, 2019, and appears in San Francisco Opera’s 2019-2020 season.

In addition to winning the GRAMMY® for Best Opera Recording, The (R)evolution of Steve Jobs recording garnered three other GRAMMY® nominations including Best Engineered Album, Classical; Producer of the Year, Classical; and Best Contemporary Classical Composition.
