The Santa Fe Opera is seeking a Human Resources Director

Reports to the General Director

Key Responsibilities

As our sole HR position, our HR Director will be part of our senior leadership team and very hands on at the same time. We have 75 employees year-round which increases for the summer season.

The HRD is responsible for the following:

  • Stay updated on industry trends and employment legislation, ensuring compliance with all relevant laws.
  • Develop and implement anti-discrimination and anti-harassment policies, providing training and setting clear expectations.
  • Manage the incident reporting system and resolve cases in line with company policy.
  • Support Artistic Administration with Collective Bargaining Agreements.
  • Oversee employee programs related to health, benefits, recruitment, and performance management.
  • Prepare and manage personnel budgets, ensuring adherence to hiring practices.
  • Consult with legal counsel and communicate with Board members as needed.
  • Support managers with employment decisions, communications, and disciplinary actions.
  • Participate in DEIA initiatives and collaborate on HR technology implementations.
  • Assist in planning employee events and activities.

Supervisory Areas

This is a hands-on HR department of 1, with the following supervisory duties:

  • Oversee the Housing Office staff, managing tenant/homeowner issues and budget.
  • Supervise Office Services staff, ensuring smooth operations and budget accuracy.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in HR or related field
  • 5 years recent full time HR director level experience required
  • Employee Relations, Benefits Administration, Recruitment experience required
  • Compensation – basic knowledge needed
  • FLSA exp ie contractor vs employee
  • Supervisory experience required
  • Leave administration, Handbook policy development and Performance Mgmt exp required
  • Mediation and Investigations experience
  • CBA Collective bargaining agreement – basic understanding beneficial
  • Advanced education or certification in HR management preferred.
  • Strong communication skills with diverse groups, including staff, artists, and Board members.
  • Demonstrated ethical leadership and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and take initiative.
  • Strategic thinking and emotional resilience in decision-making.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and writing skills.
