Plant Operations Manager
Duties/Responsibilities: The Plant Operations Manager (POM) is responsible for maintaining the grounds and buildings of The Santa Fe Opera along with all water systems, security systems, owned and leased vehicles, as well as supervision of all associated staff. He/she works closely with the Production Director (PD), General Director and Facilities committee of the Board of Directors to evaluate the maintenance, repair and capital needs of the Opera’s physical plant.
Working with the PD, develop short and long-range plans for facilities maintenance and new construction
Under the direction of the PD, manage materials and personnel budgets for both projects and ongoing maintenance. This will involve overseeing the purchasing of materials, time card recording, scheduling. This will require learning accounting systems.
Work closely with the maintenance managers to ensure that all Opera grounds and buildings are kept both attractive and functional and that the associated systems are maintained in good working order with special attention to the time-sensitive schedules of the Company.
Give mentoring and assistance to supervisors in managing their staffs
Under the direction of the PD, engage and supervise contractors hired by the Opera to perform maintenance projects. This will involve soliciting bids, selecting contractors and acting as the Opera’s liaison with those contractors through the life of the project.
Operate the Opera’s potable water production and distribution system, including compliance with all government regulations and reporting requirements. (This may require obtaining state operator certification.)
Manage the Opera’s security systems, including the electric gates, burglar alarm and fire protection systems, key plans and coordination with the associated vendors. Work with the Maintenance managers in managing the Opera’s in-house Security staff
Manage disposal of all Opera waste including trash, recycling, green waste and hazardous waste
Act as the primary contact point within the Opera for all maintenance requests
Ensure that documentation on Opera facilities, systems and maintenance processes are produced and updated regularly
Monitor invoices from vendors to ensure that goods are received or work is complete before payment is made. This may involve the use of the Opera’s computerized financial system.
Work with other Opera departments to coordinate deliveries, storage requirements, and setups for special events
Must have at least five years of experience with supervising staff, and with managing and problem solving in an organization of a similar size, scope of systems, and budget. A demonstrated understanding of electrical and mechanical systems, ability to read architectural drawings and an aptitude for learning basic Auto-CAD skills are also required.
Working knowledge of the maintenance of electrical, mechanical and hydraulic systems
Knowledge of safety processes and regulations
Must be able to manage staff.
Must be able to communicate well with architects, engineers, contractors and repair vendors
Must be able to communicate well with Opera senior management
Must be skilled in using business-related applications on a computer, and the basic micro-soft office suite of applications.
