Description
The individual is responsible to the General Director for recommendations with respect to policies, strategy, budgets and management for The Santa Fe Opera’s marketing, press, new media, web site, and public relations programs, and for the brand recognition of the Company. The primary goals are creating demand for the Company’s product and maximizing revenue.
Responsible for working with the General Director, appropriate Board committees, and all groups and departments as necessary for the development of materials as they relate to the total Company image.
Requirements
Summary Responsibilities:

Manage and direct the staff of the Communications department.

Develop the overall marketing, advertising and press plan, revising revenue generating strategies and measuring results. Coordinate with departments, specifically Development, Education, Artistic and Production.

Collaborate on such items as Strategic Planning, Company budgeting, Board and committee reporting, policy creation, IT governance committee, and planning for future seasons.

Supervise writer and/or write articles, press releases and other pieces in a style that is representative of the voice of the Company; that enhance the reader’s appreciation and understanding of the art form; and that are reflective of the vision and stature of the organization.

Coordinate creation and production of all publications, visual and print materials, website, and new media content.

Work with other departments in creation of publicity and marketing plans for production-related events, (i.e., premieres, new works, standard and rarely performed pieces, community productions, education and ancillary programs.)

Control departmental costs; review and analyze management reports.

Represent the Company at donor and community events and other outside activities. Serve as a spokesperson for the Opera. Accept public speaking engagements on behalf of the Opera as appropriate.

Develop (along with other members of the department) business partnerships with the goal of increasing corporate marketing sponsorships. Host (or assign) community events related to such sponsorships.

Select, develop, and motivate managerial and support staff with an awareness of the Company’s current and future needs.
This position requires a bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing or another related field of study, and a high level of knowledge about Opera and current practices in the field. The candidate should have 5 years of experience as Director of Marketing, Press and/or Public Relations, or in a position with comparable responsibilities and an annual budget in excess of $10 million, preferably in the field of Opera.
