    OPERA BOARD ELECTS NEW OFFICERS

At its annual meeting, held Friday, August 9, the Board of Directors of The Santa Fe Opera elected a new slate of officers for the coming year. As his last official duty, President Carey R. Ramos chaired the meeting. Mr. Ramos is moving out of the country and has resigned.

Susan F. Morris, current Chairman was re-elected President, a post she held from 2003 until 2010 when she became Chairman. A long-time Board member Mrs. Morris headed the Company’s 50th Anniversary Capital Campaign, “Building a Sound Future,” which exceeded its $30 million goal by $4.6 million.

Joseph F. Bryan has been elected Chairman to succeed Mrs. Morris. Mr. Bryan was elected to the Board in 2003 and has served as First Vice President. He serves on the Executive Committee and several finance committees.

Susan Graf Marineau, will become President-Elect. She joined the Board in 2011 and is Chairman of the Marketing Committee. She makes her home in San Francisco and Santa Fe.

In recognition for their long service to the Company, two women were elected Honorary Directors. Carole B. Ely, who will retire at the end of the season as the Company’s Director of Development, joined the Board first as a member and then as its president from 2000 until 2002 when she resigned to accept the Development assignment. Ann Rolley joined the Board in 1993 and served as President for one year in 1997.  She continued as a member until this year.

Other officers elected were: Patricia McFate and James R. Seitz, Jr. as Vice Chairmen; First Vice President, Roberta Cooper Ramo; Vice President, Peter B. Frank; Treasurer, T. Peter Townsend; Secretary, Dr. Robert Zone.

Elected to three year terms were E. H. Corrigan, David P. Padilla, Irwin Sugarman.

Elected for a second three year term were Peter Frank, David Ingalls, Walter Kirchner, Maryon Davies Lewis, Raymond Lutz, Nedra Matteucci, Patricia A. McFate, George Shirley, Fred Simon, Robert Weiss.

In his General Director’s report, Charles MacKay stated that at this point in the season, ticket sales were $8.5 million, $500,000 more than last year at the same time. Total capacity last year was 91.3% and the Company expects to exceed that number. Especially heartening is that about 3,000 more tickets have been sold so far this season.
