Christine Brewer in Recital
The Santa Fe Opera presents internationally renowned soprano Christine Brewer in recital on Sunday, August 4 at 4:00 PM at The Lensic Performing Arts Center. In honor of the 200th anniversary of the birth of Richard Wagner and the 100th anniversary of the birth of Benjamin Britten, the program includes Wagner’s Wesendonck Lieder and Britten’s Cabaret Songs. Ms. Brewer will be accompanied by Joseph Illick, who will also play Franz Liszt’s piano transcription of Liebestod from Wagner’s Tristan and Isolde.
A Santa Fe Opera favorite, Ms. Brewer’s performances with the Company include the title roles in Ariadne auf Naxos (1999) and Alceste (2009) as well as Ellen Orford in Peter Grimes (2005) and Lady Billows in Albert Herring (2010). Most recently she appeared in a number of concert performances including Britten’s War Requiem with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra conducted by James Conlon and Zemlinky’s Lyric Symphony with the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra under David Robertson.
Joseph Illick is the Executive and Artistic Director of the Santa Fe Concert Association and the Music Director and Principal Conductor of the Fort Worth Opera. In addition to his conducting appearances, Mr. Illick is well-known as a pianist and has accompanied a number of singers in the Concert Association’s Festival of Song.
