Auditions for Noah's Flood to be Held
AUDITIONS FOR NOAH'S FLOOD TO BE HELD
The Santa Fe Opera will present special family performances of Benjamin Britten’s Noah’s Flood as part of the 2013 season. The opera will be fully staged with costumes, sets and orchestra. The director is Kathleen Clawson and the designer is the renowned santero Charles Carrillo. The conductor is Gabriel Gordon, music director of the Albuquerque Youth Symphony. Two former apprentices, baritone Alan Dunbar and mezzo-soprano Ellie Jarrett Shattles, will appear as Noah and Mrs. Noah. Performances are scheduled for August 10 and 11 in the Opera’s O’Shaughnessy Hall with times and ticket prices to be announced at a later date.
The cast will include thirty-eight young people between the ages of 8 and 18 who will appear as Noah’s sons, their wives, the Five Gossips, and the chorus of animals and birds. Auditions for singing roles will be held in Albuquerque on Friday, February 8 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the Albuquerque Youth Symphony Space, 4407 Menaul NE. In Santa Fe auditions will be held on Saturday, February 9 from 2:00–4:00 p.m. in the Opera’s Stieren Hall. Those wishing to audition should be prepared to sing a few lines of a favorite hymn or song; an accompanist will be provided. To schedule a time, call 875-1319 in Albuquerque or 986-5996 in Santa Fe.
Rehearsals for Noah’s Flood will take place in Albuquerque from July 22-26 and August 4 and at The Santa Fe Opera on July 29 and August 5-9. Those chosen as soloists must plan for additional preparation time with the chorus master prior to the July rehearsals.
